Official Charter 
 

   The following are the purposes of the Foundation contained in our Certificate of Incorporation which is filed with the State of New York as a not-for-profit corporation and we have received our not-for-profit Certificate of Incorporation from the New York State Department of State. (Filing as a corporation enables us to hold title to property.)  

"The Corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for religious and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 as now in effect or as may hereafter be amended ("the Code") The purposes for which the Corporation is formed are:  

a) To obtain, maintain, manage, and hold in trust, the remaining 38 (approx) acres of the historic Max Yasgur's Farm' in Bethel, NY, where 500,000 people gathered to experience 3 Days of Peace, Love and Music during the 1969 Woodstock Festival, (hereinafter referred to as "the site")  

b) for the express purpose of protecting the ongoing FREE assembly of pilgrims who continue to gather at the site every August for the annual Woodstock Nation reunion as well as the FREE assembly of those pilgrims who visit throughout the year,  

c) to preserve and protect the sacredness and natural beauty of the site as an open field, undeveloped, with no permanent structure, unfenced, unposted (no "no trespassing" signs) as it has been for more than 30 years.  

d) to secure, through purchase, or other legal means, the remaining acres of the original Max Yasgur's Farm site used in 1969 for the "Woodstock Festival" as it becomes available to the Woodstock Nation Foundation, as well as any other property it sees fit to purchase in order to fulfill its purposes, as is its right,  

e) to support and assist and to make grants and gifts in aid and support and assistance of needy artists or potential artists in order to enable them to become economically independent through the use and cultivation of their God-given talents,  

f) to promote sharing and caring on the part of wealthy and/or famous individuals through the creation of the "Max Yasgur Award" which is to be given to such people, or anyone else, "caught in the act of conspicuous sharing", (this award being solely prestigious),  

g) to establish a permanent "Heartquarters" for the Woodstock Nation Foundation somewhere in the Catskills of New York State that is owned and managed by the Foundation in order to carry out the purposes of the Foundation.
