Hi there,

Hamish passed away some 3/4 years ago. It happened suddenly. I'm trying to organize some people in London to look into the materials Hamish left behind in view of exploring the possibility of publishing a tribute to him.
i'm glad you remember him. Did you know him?

I couldn't find any reference to him on the website. I had to smile about another friend's presence there, Ronan O'Rahilly! Jeezes, those were the days!

LOVING AWARENESS

Hamish

was an intimate friend and photographer. During the Spring, Summer and Fall of 1961  we were together almost daily.

Ronan O'Rahilly was using my 35 millimeter world war II  Arriflex to film an actors workshop and he had Hamish taking the stills. We clicked andI I hired Hamish full time to document a play I was co- producing called Boss Woman staringMarpessa Dawn.

Next I arranged for us to do a photo shoot of new starlet Julie Christie  who was making" Fast Lady" her second dumb blond comedy with James Roberton Justice. When we saw where she lived and that in real life she dressed like a Beatmik the decision was made to take her into old bombed out ruins and do the shoot.  Another time we brought her to 'The Vale of Health" where I was living and photographed her in Hampstead Heath.

Hamish did a photo series of my pregnant naked wife.

Another Time we went to Munich where I bought him a classic Rolliflex. Then we went to  Zell em Zee, Austria and stayed at Kurt Blackners Chalet.

When I suddenly left England in December of 1961 because of wife and family problems. I left the camera and other things with Hamish.

Hi there!

Cool. As you probably know Hamish ended up working for me, first at the CRAWDADDY and later at PARAGON where he was in charge of the Art Dept. which produced really innovative work and employed a lot of people who later became famous. I was recently interviewed in New York Press and mentioned his contribution to the scene. I'm delighted to know about your friendship, and I hope we can do something for his memory.

The very best to you,

giorgio

PS: I remember the Actors' Workshop, Stanislavsky Studio, run by one George or John Martin. That's where I first met Ronan !

From Woodstock Nation

As BB used to say "Groovy",
You did some great work and im sorry I didn't meet you in those days. But my Karma was to be worked out in San Francisco.

The "Yard Birds" were the only British band that really grabbed my attention.

The Stanislavsky Studio was run by Michael Joseph, Ronan's roommate and son of Hermine Gingold. I had bought the lease for a studio at the "Italian Village" on Fulham Road near Stamford Bridge for my partner, the illustrious art director Robert Brownjohn and left it to Mim and Ronan.

Who is the executor of Hamish.s estate?

I would like to use the photos he took during his time with me to illustrate the "Loving Awareness" chapter of my book "Thunderbird Boogie.

Why dont you come and visit at our Highland Lake Home in the Catskills 100 miles from Manhatten and 17 miles east of the Woodstock Festival Site in Bethel off 55. We have a guest room.  Our phone is 914 557-0086
Its a lovely 7 bedroom place located beside a lake with a music room equipped with full drum kit P.A. and home recording stuff . We also have an adjourning tennis court and 200 yards behind us is a tasty 9 hole golf course available for $1O a day.
Its a very creative environment. Rent paid for by the collective labors of my 4 adult children  who form our family band.

I hope you have another big hit.
Daniel
