Ramsey

The mysterious Salina Salome Ramsey was the daughter of Gardener Ramsey, veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto in the Texas war for independence and pioneer in California's "Bear Flag Republic". Gardener Ramsey was living in Sonoma In 1865   when he married Mary Jane Lowe (Low).  Mary Jane Lowe (Low) was probably the daughter of Frederick Ferdinand Low, 9th Governor of California and his wife Molly Creed "Queen of the Sacramento River". It could be safely said that Molly handled more gold than anyone in California since Frederick Low's "California Steamship Company", operating between Marysville and San Francisco, carried most of the gold in California between 1850 and 1862 and Molly was on top of the family business.

It was reported in the" San Francisco Inquirer" of 1875 that, Ex Governor' Low's wife attended Cutler Mcallister,s wedding anniversary in the company of the Governor's daughter and Capt. Ramsey. Governor Low was in China as U.S. Ambassador, being highly esteemed as a friend of China because of his singular defense of the Chinese in California.

At this writing I don't know what happened to Salina's mother Mary Jane, but I
believe she died shortly after Salina's birth and Ramsey boarded Salina with the Robertson family in Hollister, in San Bonito County before heading north and founding a lumber town in the State of  Washington, called Ramsey. Salina Salome Ramsey married William Frederick Sperber in 1883. It should be remembered that Sperber, Ramsey and Low, were all active Freemasons, the dominant social fraternity and culture bearers of the frontier Gold Rush days.
