Vern Helper died in May 2000
We first met Vern in August, 1989 at Magic Meadow on Meads Mountain in Woodstock, New York, where 7,000 people gathered for the 20th anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Following that event he accompanied Day Yusko on a 60 mile trip to the original Hurd Road site at Bethel in Sullivan County for a massive reunion. Vern attended the next 10 reunions in Bethel and died while preparing for Woodstock 2000.
The memorial sign above was part of a staff camp set up by Bob Parnicky on Roy Howard's Bethel Farm on 17B the alternative gathering site used by the Woodstock Nation for three years after being fraudulently forced off the original site by billionaire Alan Gerry.
