Woodstock Swing
The history of Jazz and Marijuana  can be traced back to the Mexican border towns of Tijuana, Jaurez, and Nuevo Laredo, between 1900 and 1930.

Marijuana, (Hemp, Cannabis, Ganga), was the most important economic plant in the world until the invention of the steam engine. Steam power replaced  ropes, man and horse power.

The rancho's of Chihuahua in northern Mexico, home of General Pancho Villa, were among the last examples of  self-sustaining equestrian plantations based on hemp.

Why?

Simple! No rope, no rancho.  The architecture and economics of the frontier is based on rope, poles, mud, grass, cows, sheep, horses and herbal medicines including the flowering tops of the hemp plant (Marijuana).
The Mexicans refer to it as pastura, meaning grass or hay.

This is the culture of the ancient Scythians.

When the grass is gone all is gone.
